Sébastien Faure

Sébastien Faure ( * January 6, 1858 in Saint- Étienne, † July 14, 1942 in Royan ) was a French anarchist and educator.

Life

Sébastien Faure was born into a conservative and traditionalist family. After studying Faure became a member of the Socialist Party Parti Ouvrier français and a candidate in the elections of 1885. 1888 Faure left the Socialist Party and became an anarchist. After the execution of Auguste Vaillant himself Faure took care of his daughter, Sidonie and later married her. In the wake of the adoption of lois scélérates also Faure was one of the defendants in the trial of the Thirty, but was later acquitted. In 1895 he founded together with Louise Michel, the anarchist journal Le Libertarian. In the Dreyfus Affair Faure is one of the main supporters of Alfred Dreyfus. In 1904 he founded near Rambouillet an existing until 1917 boarding school for poor children on the basis of a liberal education. Faure was also author Erich Mühsam journal beacon.
