Şebinkarahisar is a small town in Turkey in the province of Giresun. The city is located 70 km south from the Black Sea and the provincial capital of Giresun.

History

Founded in today's Şebinkarahisar for veterans of the Roman army and initially bore the name Colonia. The first buildings on the establishment of the location towering castle, however, date back to the 2nd century BC. The economy Şebinkarahisars was based on the extraction and trade of alums.

Until the First World War and their expulsion in the wake of the genocide of the Armenians, many Armenians lived in the city. It came in 1915 with the resistance of Şebinkarahisar.

Attractions

Next to the castle which was built as a Greek Orthodox conditioning Licesi Church and of the 12th- century Behremşah Mosque are in attractive buildings to be mentioned. In the nearby village Kayadibi is the monastery on a rock lying Meryemana Manastırı derived from the Byzantine period.
