Geography

Seckachquellen

The Seckachquellen lie north of Trochtelfingen between the B 313 and the route of the Hohenzollern country track in an overgrown with reeds source swamp. This is designated as Natura 2000 zone ( the Habitats Directive). Over a distance of about 200 m, the spring water collects numerous karst springs in the riverbed. Its catchment area covers an area of 28 km ². All these sources together pour 246 l / s, and they pour seasonal fairly constant. The Seckach is thus already from its origin a stately river.

Course

The Seckach runs between the half-timbered houses of the historic center of Trochtelfingen. After the district Mägerkingen it flows about 70 m south of the leek tert lake in the Lauchert.

Flora and Fauna

In the lowlands of the Seckachauen you find the Bach thistle, some pondweed plants, the water butt edged star, the marsh marigold or the snakes knotweed. In addition, are to be found poor grass and juniper heaths in Seckachtal. The upper Arroyo is almost free of woody plants. There, the natterjack toad, sand lizard, the slow worm and the edge ring Fritillary are located. Red-backed Shrike, Willow Tit, Green Woodpecker and quail can be observed on some sections of the Seckach.
