Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol

S-HTTP or SHTTP stands for Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol, a protocol of the Internet protocol suite, which was developed in 1995 by Enterprise Integration Technologies. It defines an encrypted data transfer via the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), so the data between the Web server and Web browsers on the World Wide Web.

Not all Web browsers support S- HTTP. The protocol is performed with the status " Experimental" by IETF as RFC 2660.

Instead today is mostly Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure ( HTTPS), which transmits the data using a secure SSL / TLS tunnel between the server and client. S-HTTP, however, encrypts every single request, so encapsulates the user data; however, the header does not.
