Secutor

The Secutor (Latin for " Followers " ) was a heavily armed Roman Gladiator. He was also known as Contraretiarius (Latin for " anti- power fighters" ) or Contrarete (Latin for " anti- power " ) because he was dedicated to the fight against armed with a network Retiarius. The Secutor was a variant of the Murmillo.

Equipment and armament

The Secutor was among the heavily armed gladiators. He was a geradklingigen short sword, the Gladius, armed. As protection he was wearing a helmet, the shield of the Roman legionaries ( Scutum ), a hand and arm on the right arm ( Manica ) and a -faceted below the left knee brace with leg brace ( Ocrea ). The helmet covered his entire face and was provided with small, round slits, which greatly affected the field of view. Dress was the Secutor with a loincloth ( subligaculum ) and a belt ( Balteus or cingulum ). Its equipment and weaponry resembled therefore, apart from the different type of helmet that the Murmillo. The special feature of the helmet was that he was mostly kept very smooth to the network of the Retiarius to offer no attack.
