SED Systems

SED Systems Ltd.. is a subsidiary of the Canadian company Calian Technologies Ltd.. Headquartered in Innovation Park in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. SED Systems plans, designs and builds communication solutions for space agencies, satellite manufacturers and satellite operators.

History

Came out SED from the Institute of Space and Atmospheric Studies ( ISAS ) of the University of Saskatchewan in 1965. 1965 Division (SED ) was founded specifically concerned with the exploration of the new technologies. 1967 was the first launch with an architecture developed by SED payload on the rocket launch site, Fort Churchill, Manitoba. Between 1965 and 1989 a total of 65 payloads with developed systems of SED were launched from Fort Churchill from.

1972 SED provides the first ground station for the first Canadian communications satellite. Was a result of the conversion of the Prince Albert Radar Laboratory to a satellite tracking station, the system also first to SED ground station for the next 16 years. Through this system, the first images of the Landsat satellites have been received. In the same year, SED was spun off to a private company and renamed SED system.

1977-1981 SED system installed at the northernmost site, a geo - synchronous satellite communication system Eureka, 81 degrees north. SED system begins in cooperation with Hughes Aircraft Company with the establishment of satellite testing and ground control equipment. Cooperation exists today with Boeing Satellite Systems. SED system begins working with Telesat Canada to offer satellite tracking systems in Canada and Guam. The company is reorganized and converted into SED Systems Inc..

1982-1986 the company's first ground control system offered for Brazil's first communication satellite. SED Systems has won the tender by the Canadian Ministry of Transportation for new equipment in aviation. The company equips all of Canada with new modern flight control systems for the civil sector.

In the following years (1986-1990), the company has four divisions. These include Satellite Ground Systems, Defense and Government Systems, Custom Manufacturing and Space Programs. SEDs Supra -thermal- mass spectrometer is used on the Japanese satellite AKEBONO. 1990 was acquired by Calian SED Systems Technology Corporation.

1991-2000 SED Systems has established itself as a world leader in the field of in- orbit tests. The company provides systems for KOREASAT, ICO, Thuraya, Mabuhay and Telenor. The company WorldSpace Corporation signed a contract with SED system to be able to offer systems for the first digital radio service via satellite. The company designed and built a satellite system for the Canadian military. SED Systems receives the largest contract in the history of the European Space Agency (ESA) for the construction of a 35 meter mirror for the deep-space antenna system.

2000-2008 the company receives several orders for controlling the satellites including for Radarsat -2, another of the CIEL Satellite Group. Due to the success and trouble-free use of the first 35 meters communication level of the ESA, the company awarded the contract to build a second 35 meters parabolic antenna of the ESA in Spain.
