Formation

On the origin of the Seelisbergersees there is a Sage: A " field of flowers " had been flooded as a curse for a misdeed of their stately owner. In this way, the little lake was created. A grain of truth might lie in this story. There is evidence that the water level of the lake has been highly varied throughout its history.

1916 was planned to Isitalbach supply to make the lake a reservoir for a power plant. The plan failed due to the difficult drainage system and had to be abandoned. 1937, the lake was lowered again, which was higher during construction by 2 meters. This had a negative impact on the biodiversity near the shore.
