Sées

Sées is a commune with 4377 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Orne in Basse-Normandie region; it belongs to the arrondissement Alençon and is the administrative center of the canton Sées. The place is a few kilometers away from the source of the River Orne.

History

Sées was in Roman times the capital of the Celtic tribe of Esuvier, which are equated with the Sagii. This Sagii were probably the namesake for Sées.
