Seiches-sur-le-Loir

Seiches -sur -le- Loir ( Seiches the Loir ) is a commune with 2943 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the Pays de la Loire.

Geography

Seiches is located on the Loir, a left tributary of the Sarthe in a world characterized by trade and traffic routes region, however, soon passes into agricultural and forestry used areas to the north and west. The departmental capital Angers is 20 km away.

Name

The name comes from the old Latin word Seiches Cepia and means: place the grapevine (French Cep de étroit = the vine ). Viticulture there at the place no longer, but probably in Canton, especially in Lué -en- Baugeois. Seiches is one of the oldest places in Anjou, occurred on the Loir -junction of the old road from Tours to Laval.

Economy

Numerous services and craft shops as well as social and cultural institutions cover a wide spectrum. The convenient location in a still rather underdeveloped area favored the establishment of industries. There are manufactured in Seiches among other telephone booths, planters, frozen foods and cake.

Traffic

In Seiches the national road N 23 crosses the secondary road D 74 to the traffic momentous crossing of the Loir. Directly east of the village there is a junction on the A11, on the E 501 runs in this section. Located just across the highway to the airport Angers- Marcé.
