Seiji Shinkai

Seiji Shinkai (Japanese新海 征 治, Seiji Shinkai, born July 5, 1944 in Munakata ) is a Japanese chemist.

Life and work

Shinkai 1967 concluded his studies at the University of Kyushu in Fukuoka with a Bachelor. In 1972 he received his doctorate just there. As a post - graduate student, he worked from 1972 to 1974 at Thomas C. Bruice at the University of California, Santa Barbara, before returning to Japan in 1975 and assistant professor at his home university was. In 1976 he moved to the same position at the University of Nagasaki, around 1987 to go back to the Kyushu University, where he was a full professor the following year. In the next few years he was research director of various projects.

Shinkai research in the field of organic chemistry, especially for host-guest chemistry, but also to liquid crystals and polysaccharide - polynucleotide interactions. He developed calixarenes for sodium and fullerenes. In addition, he created a method to map organic structures on silicates. For this purpose he used the plasmid DNA from bacteria as starting material. He could make it possible to bind silicate precursor by addition of carbanions to the genetic material. This " merge " together to form after removal of the DNA by heating the spatial structure of the organic material from true.

Publications

Shinkai has published more than 700 scientific papers, including:
