Seinan Gakuin University

The Seinan Gakuin University (Japanese西南 学院 大学, Seinan Gakuin daigaku, in short: SGU) is a private university in Japan. It is located in Sawara -ku, Fukuoka, Fukuoka Prefecture.

History

The school was built in 1916 by Charles Kelsey Dozier ( 1879-1933 ), a missionary of the Southern Baptist Convention, founded as a boys middle school. The former school name was Shiritsu Seinan Gakuin (私立 西南 学院, dt "Private Seinan Academy "); Seinan referred Southwest ( Japan ). In 1918 she moved to the present campus. In 1921, the four-year technical school department was founded with two courses: Literature and commercial science. During the Pacific War, the American Christian School had it rough; 1941 returned missionaries returned to America and the technical college department in 1944 renamed Seinan Gakuin business school because the course was closed for English literature.

After the war, the school was renamed in 1946 in Seinan Gakuin Technical College and in 1949 they became the coeducational Seinan Gakuin University with a faculty ( Liberal Arts ). The Faculty was founded in 1954 divided into two departments: literature and commercial science. Over the years, the University added the following faculties added: Economics (1964 ), Theology (1966 ), Law ( 1967), Human Sciences (2005), and Intercultural Studies ( 2006).
