Seiser Alm

The Seiser Alm ( Alpe di Siusi Italian, Ladin Mont Sëuc ) is the largest mountain plateau in Europe. It is located in the Dolomites in Italy, approximately 40 kilometers by road east of Bolzano and above the well-known tourist places Siusi and Castelrotto.

Geography

The pasture has a size of 57 km ², is located at an altitude of 1680 m slm to 2350 m slm, and makes the Schlerngebiet one of the largest enclosed plateau with central mountain nature in the Alps. The western part forms since 1975 together with the group Schlern and the Rosengarten Nature Park Sciliar garden. The Schlern borders the Alpe di Siusi to the southwest from back. To the southeast, the striking massif of the Langkofelgruppe connects. To the north, the Alpe di Siusi Val Gardena is limited. In the north- west is the boundary survey Puflatsch.

The settlement of the Seiser Alm is divided into two local zones: the highly -developed tourist Compaccio 1860 m slm at the extreme western edge of the plateau and Saltria 1680 m slm, which 5km east, just below the Plattkofel lies.

From Seis access to the Alpe di Siusi with regular buses and a modern circular gondola lift is possible, which in turn is connected by a bus service to the area around Castelrotto and Fie. Another cable car runs from Ortisei. Season manner also buses from Monte Pana be used to Saltria. With private vehicles, an access road to Alpe di Siusi is permitted only in the evening and night hours. The area is touristy intensively developed.

History

Summer

In summer the area is ideal for hiking and mountain climbing. In particular, the diverse flora attracts many tourists in the summer. In spring 2006, the Hans and Paula Steger- way was completed. This path leads to an east-west direction Compaccio to Saltria and is decorated with information panels that give insights into the landscape and culture of the Alpe di Siusi and South Tyrol.

Winter

Especially popular are skiing and snowboarding, as the Seiser Alm has 60 km of ski slopes and numerous ski lifts and a terrain park. In addition, a cross-country network of nearly 60 km is available. More practicable on the Seiser Alm Winter sports are sledding and ice skating. Culture
