Sékouba Konaté

Sékouba Konaté ( born June 6, 1964 in Conakry ) is Brigadier General of the Guinean army and had been an assassination attempt on then-President of the country, Moussa Dadis Camara, in early December 2009, de facto president of the country. From December 2008 to December 2009 was Vice President Konaté within the ruling military junta in Guinea, the Conseil National de la Démocratie et du Dévelopement ( CNDD, the National Council for Democracy and Development ). In this capacity he took power after Camara was seriously injured in an assassination attempt on 3 December 2009 and was therefore incapacitation.

Family and military career

Konaté was born in 1964 in the Guinean capital, Conakry. His parents belonged to the people of the Mandinka, the set of related peoples about 30 % of the population of Guinea. According to another source Lebanese said to have been his mother, his Guinean father should have served in the French army, until in 1958 he returned to the independence of Guinea to the country. According to the same source, the former dictator Lansana Conté was after the death of father Konate 1982 "protector" Konate. He attended the Académie Militaire Royale in the Moroccan city of Meknes. In 1995, he fought with Guinean units in neighboring Sierra Leone. Because of his bravery in battle, he received the nickname " El Tigre ".

The path to the presidency

End of his presidency

On 27 June 2010, the 2010 presidential election took place in Guinea, the first free election in this country at all. Sékouba Konaté not stood as a candidate. Cellou Dalein Diallo and Alpha Condé received with 39 or 20% of all the candidates most votes. After the victory of Alpha Conde in the runoff election on November 7, 2010, this was sworn in on 21 December 2010 as Sekoubas successor.
