Selce, Croatia

Selce is a popular holiday town in the Kvarner bay directly on the Croatian Adriatic coast. It is adjacent to the town of Crikvenica. Selce is located about 37 km southeast of Rijeka. Neighboring towns are next to Crikvenca Kraljevica and Novi Vinodolski.

History

Selce is built on the site of the Roman item " Ad turres " and developed as a port with storage areas for wine and salt, as well as the office. In 1886, the Church of St. Catherine was built, which has late historical features.

Tourism

Selce looks back on a century-old tradition in tourism. Already in 1894 the first seaside resort was opened, which this year is considered the beginning of tourism in Selce. First hotels, pensions and villas appeared in the early 20th century, including the still existing Art Nouveau hotel "Esperanto ", which was fully renovated turn of the millennium. Today, the former fishing and port city Selce lives almost exclusively on tourism, which is supported by the mild year-round climate, excellent road access and proximity to Rijeka airport on Krk. Currently, there are five major hotels and numerous private apartments.

Due to the excellent quality of the sea water beaches in Selce be annually awarded with the international Blue flag.

Sport and Wellness

In Selce is the well-known divers club Mihuric, the year-round offering diving trips and training. The fishing club Oslic preserves the fishing tradition and organized events around the sport of fishing. In summer, numerous possibilities for water skiing, windsurfing, paragliding and cycling are offered.

The Polyclinic Terme Selce enjoys a nationwide, good reputation in the rehabilitation of sports injuries. There has numerous internationally known athletes were treated.
