Selda BaÄŸcan

Selda Bağcan (* 1948 in Muğla ) is a Turkish singer, who also plays guitar.

Life

She was born the daughter of a Macedonian veterinarian and a Crimean Tatar teacher. In 1971 she completed her studies at the Ankara University Fen Fakültesi successfully. In the same year she earned her album " Katip Arzuhalim Yaz Yare böyle / Mapusanede Mermerden Director " on the market, which sold more than a million times. She gave successful concerts in Turkey and Germany. In 1972, she represented Turkey at the Bulgarian " Altin Orfey Music Festival ". She also gave concerts for various left-wing parties. During the military coup on September 12, 1980 she was arrested but released shortly afterwards. On April 24, 1984 she was arrested again and detained in prison.

In 1986 she started the " world of dance and music festival" with the support of Peter Gabriel in part. She went several times abroad, for example in Rotterdam, London and other cities of Western Europe on.

In 1990 she gave the Rasa Organization ( Interkultureel Centrum ) in the Netherlands a concert. In the same year she also played in Yugoslavia, in Prizren and Pristina. 2000 Selda Bağcan was on the way to a concert in Hatay, on the way there happened a car accident, Selda Bağcan was seriously injured. She paused then two years. In 2002, she signed up with their album " Ben geldim " ( dt: I 'm back " again). Selda Bağcan is one of the best Turkish folk singers Turkey; she also worked for many years together with Ahmet Kaya. Her song " Uğurlar Olsun ", dedicated to the murdered journalist Uğur Mumcu, is especially popular to this day.

In 2009, Mos Def ( American artist ), sampled the song " Ince, ince " by Selda Bağcan. On the album "The Ecstatic " is now represented.
