Selebi-Phikwe

Selibe -Phikwe (also Selebi Phikwe ) is a mining town in north-eastern Botswana. With 49 849 inhabitants ( 2001) it is the fourth largest city in the country.

The city emerged from the two mines located 14 km away from each other Selibe and Phikwe, between which lasted until the 1960s, a hitherto undiscovered copper and nickel deposits. As was the mineral wealth of the area discovered in 1967, emerged on the farm land between two places, the first mines and townships. From this, the city Selibe -Phikwe was born. The largest private employer in the country, the Bamangwato Concessions Ltd.. (BCL ) mining company, promotes Selibe -Phikwe per year, approximately 2.5 million tons of copper and nickel.

The coal-fired power plant Selibe -Phikwe is with a capacity of 60 MW, the second largest power station in Botswana.
