Self-deportation

Voluntary departure is a term that was chosen on 19 January 2007 " word of the year 2006". The decision was made by a panel of linguists in Köthen.

The term is used in connection with the treatment of rejected asylum seekers. " Voluntary departure " refers, according to the jury the fact that many rejected asylum seekers to return from deportation under duress "voluntarily" to their homeland. In fact, they had no other choice.

The term was selected from a total of 1130 proposals.
