Selma Diamond

Selma Diamond (* August 5, 1920 in Montreal, Quebec; † 13 May 1985 in Los Angeles, California ) was a Canadian actress and screenwriter.

Life

Diamond grew up in Brooklyn and attended New York University. Initially she worked as an essayist for the New Yorker magazine, then she wrote for NBC Radio, among others for Groucho Marx and Danny Kaye. From 1950 she worked as a screenwriter for television. For their contribution to Sid Caesar show Caesar 's Hour, she was nominated for a 1956 Emmy Award. Furthermore, she wrote for shows of Milton Berle and Perry Como. From 1960, she began a career in front of the camera. She guest starred, among others, in Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show, and had her feature film debut in a pure voice from the off in the film comedy A totally, totally insane world. They played until the early 1980s, mostly small supporting roles, in 1984 they had in Steve Martin's comedy solo for 2 more supporting role. In the same year she won the role of the bailiff Selma Hacker on the sitcom Night Court, she played in the first two seasons of the series and by which it was known in German-speaking countries.

Diamond died in 1985 from lung cancer.
