Semantic Grid

The term Semantic Grid refers to an approach of grid computing, which are according to information, resources and services described in machine- readable form. This should make it easier to find resources in the grid and add automatically, which helps in the establishment of virtual organizations. The semantic descriptions are meta-information is and are usually with the technologies of the Semantic Web, such as RDF is realized.

Based on the Semantic Web, the Semantic Grid can be defined as: ". Extending the existing Grid in which information and services obtain well-defined meanings, to enable computers and people to better cooperate" (Source: - Semantic Grid Group )

This perspective on the Semantic Grid was first formulated in the context of e-science, because it was found that such an approach was deemed necessary to -use high levels of easily and to provide seamless cross automation, which allows cooperate flexibly to global level and distributed to perform calculations.

The use of Semantic Web - and other technologies in the field of knowledge management in grid applications - is sometimes described as the Knowledge Grid. The Semantic Grid extends this by applying these technologies within the Grid middleware.

Some activities related to the Semantic Grid are coordinated by the Semantic Grid Research Group of the Global Grid Forum ( GGF ).
