Semei Kakungulu

Semipalatinsk Kakungulu (* 1869, † November 24, 1928 ) was a Ugandan warrior and founder of the Abayudaya.

During the establishment of colonial rule over Uganda Kakungulu fought for the British and conquered the areas of Bukedi and Busoga. He also took them to the Protestant faith. He was rewarded with a governorship in eastern Uganda, where he founded the city of Mbale. However, to be his endeavor recognized by the British as a king, much as they were in the other areas of the Protectorate, was unsuccessful and the mismatch between niedergeschriebenem and real in the Bible Religion understanding of the Britons was Kakungulu strange, so that he with the British broke and turned away by their faith. He approached the sect of Abamalaki who lived a Christian faith with Jewish elements. The Jewish commandments Kakungulu talked to so much that he left the Abamalaki and declared now to be a Jew and to live according to the Jewish commandments. He gathered followers around him, with which he moved in Mbale and the Abayudaya formed.
