Seminara

Seminara is an Italian town in the province of Reggio Calabria in Calabria with 2902 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Seminara is located 48 km north of Reggio Calabria on the northern slopes of Aspromonte. The neighboring municipalities are Bagnara Calabra, Gioia Tauro, Melicuccà, Oppido Mamertina, Palmi, Rizziconi, San Procopio. The site comprises the main town Seminara and the two hamlets S. Anna di Seminara and Barritteri. The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and crafts.

In the 1908 earthquake, the city was destroyed and rebuilt again. Thus, the city has a regular network of streets.

Attractions

In place of the communal palace is worth seeing. In the churches of S. Michele and S. Antonio statues from the 16th century.

Culture

Seminara is known about the regional boundaries for the idiosyncratic ceramic which is manufactured in long, most likely the Greek tradition entirely by hand. Famous are especially the " maschere " intended to prevent the " malocchio " the evil eye.
