Å enov

Šenov ( German Schönhof; Polish Szonów ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It lies on the eastern outskirts of Ostrava, Ostrava- město Okres belongs to.

Geography

Šenov found in Moravian - Silesian Ostrava in the pan and belongs to the metropolitan region of Ostrava. The city is situated on the right bank of the Lučina opposite the mouth of the Venclůvka. Neighboring towns in the west of the Ostrava district Bartovice, in the north Petřvald, in the east and in the south Šumbark and Havířov Skrbeň, Šimška and Horni Datyně.

History

The corresponding to the Duchy of Teschen Schönhof village was first mentioned in a 1305 tithe list of bishops of Wroclaw. In the 14th and 15th centuries was one of the estates of the local noble family Shashkov of Schönhof. 1531 acquired the Sedlnitzky of Choltitz Schönhof. At this time of small Renaissance castle was built. 1549 bought Jaroslav Skrbenský of Hriste the basic rule.

1764 the wooden church of St. Nicholas was demolished and in its place built the Baroque Church of the Providence of the Lord. 1829 acquired Philip Louis de Saint- Genois Schönhof and in 1893 bought Heinrich Graf Larisch Mönnisch possession. This took care not at all about the castle, the 1927 was so dilapidated, that it was demolished. Only the castle library was brought to Vienna, the furniture was disposed of.

1893 was the Chapel of the Evangelical-Augsburg church, and in 1931 built the Bohemian Brethren Church their church.

In 1993 the village was awarded the right to bear a coat of arms and municipality since October 5, 1998 has Šenov city rights. Until 1 January 2007, the city was part of the Okres Ostrava -město.
