Senshusei course

The Senshūsei Course (Japanese専 修 生, senshūsei ) is an intense and extremely grueling eleven months of full-time Aikido training course which is held annually at the Yoshinkan Aikido Hombu Dojo, the headquarters of Yoshinkan Aikido in Tokyo. The Senshusei course was especially known by Robert Twiggers book Angry White Pyjamas.

Content

Students begin the study regardless of the achieved already rank and aptitude with the basic movements and get in the curriculum the basic techniques of Yoshinkan Aikido taught. Classes are held in Japanese and English and is led by teachers from the Honbu Dojo. The Senshusei Course brings the participants in all the basics of Yoshinkan Aikido, Jiyūwaza, self defense and teaching methods. Graduates of the course to get to the end usually the Shodan ( black belt ) awarded, if they have not already achieved this rank.

History

The Senshusei Course was founded by Gozo Shioda 1957. The amount recognized in the period of one year course was initially used to (警 视 庁 机动队, "mobile unit " of the police department of the Tokyo prefecture) to train during a time of civil unrest in the 1960s, some members of the Keishi -chō Kidōtai. Every year a certain number of members of the Police of Tokyo Prefecture subjects still this course, however, this was in 1991 with the founding of the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation ( IYAF ) also made available to candidates who do not belong police unit. By opening the Senshusei currency rate, IYAF the International Society wanted to offer realistic training in Japan. The men and women who do the course these days, still come mostly from abroad. The modern curriculum is designed to develop sustainable and effective Aikido and to convey its graduates a strong spirit. Participants in the Senshusei - course enjoy an experience that is similar to the traditional uchideshi. The course has evolved away from its original purpose as a course for instructors to its present purpose, with more emphasis on learning, training and development of the spirit.

Many graduates of the program have even further and teaches Yoshinkan dojo opened in countries around the world, including Australia, Canada, Israel, Germany, Portugal, Great Britain and the United States.
