Street Description

In South Korea

The highway begins in Mokpo, a city with 242,000 inhabitants in the southwest of South Korea. She has at the beginning of 2x2 lanes, but widens after the first connection to 2x4 lanes and turn now from the northeast. She now runs directly along the coast. It follows a shamrock with a local street. The motorway has subsequently re- 2x2 lanes and leads some to the interior. In this area, an important river and the highway is passing through the valley of the Yeongsan. The area is slightly hilly with low but heavily wooded mountains. The highway here has a series of tunnels and runs along Muan. Here you crossing the Expressway 12 runs in the north- east by Muan International Airport to Gwangju.

The Expressway 15 runs 30 km west of Gwangju and here is not far from the coast. In the area there are a variety of low mountains and in the coastal regions. Near the city Gochang follows an intersection with the 253 Expressway, an east- west highway. The following is a large coastal plain and the Espressway 15 also has 2x2 lanes. The highway runs partly over bridges and passes Gimje west. Between Iksan and Gunsan the Expressway 20, an east-west highway of Gunsan about Iksan crosses over to Jeonju. In addition, the 151 Expressway is crossed, which runs from Gunsan to Cheonan.

In the West, South Korea

It is the flow cross Geum and the Expressway 15 runs through a mountainous area, yet close is located on the coast. This part of South Korea is relatively sparsely populated with a few large cities. The highway has therefore also 2x2 lanes. In Gunsan there are several U.S. military bases, for whom the street is an important route to Seoul. The highway also has a series of tunnels. In Boryeong the highway runs very close along the Yellow Sea. The highway runs north along the edge of a mountain, on a narrow coastal strip.

In Dangjin of Expressway 30 is crossed, which runs by the east. From this node are 2x3 lanes available. It is followed by a large building, the Seohae Grand bridge having a length of 6 kilometers. Immediately after the bridge carries the highway on a new port along, which was partially built into the sea. Shortly afterwards, a node with the Expressway 40 The highway has also 2x3 lanes and passes through a hilly area in the north and lead in the metropolitan area of Seoul.

Seoul

In parallel to the motorway is a local highway bridge that has 2x2 lanes. It follows the Ansan city with 690,000 inhabitants. From here, the traffic increases significantly. The following is a junction with the Expressway 50, which forms the southern bypass of Seoul. Shortly thereafter, followed by a very large toll station and connect to the Expressway 100, which is the other ring road of Seoul. In the suburbs of Seoul, the road widened to 2x4 lanes and it follows a cross with the 110 Expressway, one of the highways between Seoul and Incheon. Shortly thereafter, the Expressway 15 officially ends, but leads as urban motorway with 2x2 lanes towards downtown Seoul on.

History

The Expressway 15 is relatively new. In 1991, the highway was approved and construction began in the same year. On July 6, opened in 1994, the first part with more than 28 kilometers between the Expressway 110 in Seoul and Ansan Expressway 50. On August 25, 1998, this additional 23 kilometers of highway between Mokpo and Meun, in the extreme southwest of South Korea. On 30 October the same year opened 23 kilometers between Seocheon and Gunsan.

On November 10, 200 has opened Seohae Grand Bridge, then the longest bridge in the world 9. Its construction began in 1993 and lasted seven years. This bridge is still one of the longest in South Korea. This shortens the traveling time between the two ends of the bridge about an hour. On 27 September 2001, the part between Dangjin and Seocheon was opened with about 104 km and on 21 December the same year, the last part with 114 km length between Gunsan and Muan.
