Seongnam FC

The Seongnam FC is a football franchise from Seongnam, South Korea. Currently playing the franchise in the K League Classic, the top division of South Korea. The team has 7 Championships South Korean giants.

History

The South Korean giants was founded in 1989 as Ilhwa Chunma Football Club in Seoul. Owner was the Unification Church.

Ilhwa Chunma initially played in the Dongdaemun Stadium in Seoul. There they won in three consecutive years the champion ( 1993, 1994, 1995). The biggest international successes celebrated the club in 1996 by winning the AFC Champions League and winning the Afro Asian Cup.

Subsequently, the club had to move in the province of Chungcheongnam -do Cheonan after. It was followed by the weakest years in franchise history, before the club management in 1999 decided to move after Seongnam (near Seoul). In the new stadium renamed Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma FC franchise, the championship was again won three consecutive times ( 2001, 2002 and 2003).

2004 reached Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma again the final of the AFC Champions League. After a 3-1 away success against Al -Ittihad they lost the return game at the home stadium with 0:5 and thus was beaten with the overall result 3:6. The last national championship was won in 2006. On 13 November 2010, the club won by a 3-1 win against FC Zob Ahan Iran's representative again the title in the AFC Champions League and thus qualified for participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2010 in Abu Dhabi.

In October 2013, the city of Seongnam announced that it would buy the franchise. 2014, the name of Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma Football Club in Seongnam Football Club has been changed.

Stadium

The franchise plays its home games at Tancheon Sports Complex.
