Politics and World Affairs

  • 0490 BC: Athens and the allied Greek cities defeat the Persians under Darius I in the Battle of Marathon decisively and end so the Second Perserzug. ( The exact date of the battle, however, is debatable. )
  • 1213: In the Battle of Muret during the Albigensian Crusade, the armies of Count Raymond VI. of Toulouse and his brother, King Peter II of Aragon, defeated by the troops loyal to the Pope of Simon IV de Montfort. The King is coming in the battle for life.
  • 1297: The Portuguese king Dionysius and King Ferdinand IV of Castile close the Treaty of Alcañices with which the border between these two countries is set. It corresponds to today essentially the border between Portugal and Spain.
  • 1348: Margaret of Valois Blanca is crowned Queen of Bohemia.
