Septemvri

Septemwri ( Bulgarian Септември to September dt ) is a town in southern Bulgaria near Pazardzhik. Septemwri is a center named after her community. The city is located in the western part of the Upper Thracian Plain, approximately 20 km west of Pazardzhik.

The former village Saranjowo was renamed to commemorate the September uprising in Semtemwri after the seizure of power by the Communists in 1944. Since 1964, the village is a city.

On January 16, 1988 founded in Septemwri 16 human rights activists, most of them former political prisoners, the protection of human rights which targeted independent company against the communist regime. She was the first opposition organization in communist Bulgaria.
