The Einschwielige tongue -leaved ( serapias lingua ) is a plant belonging to the orchid family ( Orchidaceae).

Description

The Einschwielige tongue -leaved is a perennial plant which has a sitting and two underground, long-stalked tubers. The stem is 10 to 35 inches high and has four to eight narrow lanceolate leaves.

The loose inflorescence consists of fewer than eight flowers. The sepals are purple gray, pointed and along inclined. The lip is 22 to 29 millimeters long and transversely divided into two parts. There is a striking purple callus on their approach. The front portion is 18 millimeters long, 12 millimeters wide, colored pink purple to yellowish or whitish, tongue -shaped and slightly hairy. The rear portion is hidden and has purple side tabs.

The flowering period extends from March to June.

Occurrence

The Einschwielige tongue -leaved comes from the Mediterranean region to the west of France. The species grows in forests, Garrigues and poor grass.
