Seremban is the capital of Negeri Sembilan Malaysian state with 372 931 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005). The city is located in the District of Seremban, one of seven districts of Negeri Sembilan in. On 9 September 2009 Seremban was to be officially declared a town. However, due to ambiguity of the legislation, it did not happen. The city is managed by the Muncipal Council ( Majlis Perbandaran Seremban ).

In the 1840s, while the discovery of tin in this area, the city on the Linggi River was established and was then called " Sungai Ujong ". It is a commercial center for the production of rubber and well connected to the rail network and the communication network in Malaysia.

The railway Singapore - Kuala Lumpur was completed in the 1890s and holds in Seremban. It also serves the railway company Keretapi Tanah Melayu.

In the city the first Rotary club in South East Asia was founded. It forms the center of the Minangkabaukultur the region. In the city there is a Minangkabau museum, which is dedicated to the Minangkabau architecture.
