Serenje

Serenje is a small town at the southern end of the Muchinga Mountains. It is located on Highway Tanzam and TAZARA in the Central Province of Zambia. It is located 1,400 meters above sea level and is the seat of administration of the same district with 132 836 inhabitants ( 2000 census ).

Economy

Serenje is located 191 km north of Kapiri Mposhi. Here branches off the so-called Chinese Road, a paved, low-traffic road to the Samfya on Bangweulusee and on to Nchelenge on Lake Mweru. Serenje is a predominantly agricultural town, the market of the district and a stopping place for tourists in the Kasanka National Park, the South Luangwa National Park and from the direction of Tanzania. This busy location has created many jobs and certainly has more potential, because here is the bottleneck between the developed and the underdeveloped south north of the country.

Infrastructure

There is a dirt-track, 1000 meters long runway, a gas station with car service, Siga Siga Rest House, a restaurant and a supermarket next to some local stores. There are primary and secondary schools.

Tourism

About 15 kilometers north of Serenje is a guest house. 5 km away are the Mulembofälle the river Kalwa, the plunge into several cascades into the valley. Halfway towards the Mpika Mutinondo Wilderness cases are with Lodge.
