Serge Reding

Serge Reding ( born December 23, 1941 in Auderghem / Belgium, † June 28, 1975 in Manila ) was a Belgian weightlifter.

Career

Serge, who was born as Serge Yvar Arthur Gerard and the name of the husband of his mother received Reding, who was not his biological father and adopted him, grew up in the Ardennes Herbeumont. The family later moved to Brussels and there came Serge sixteen year for the first time with the weight lifting in touch. But through a systematic training, he began in 1959, when coach Wittenbol weightlifting club Schaerbeek. 1961/62 he completed his military service and then worked as a librarian in a library.

His achievements in weightlifting, he increased continuously. His first world record, he raised the age of 28 years. 1964, 1968 and 1972 he competed in the Olympic Games, the silver medal in 1968 was his greatest sporting achievements. 1972 the competition took place in his weight class the day after the terrorist attack on the Israeli athletes held in which several weightlifters of the Israeli team were killed, who knew Serge good. He was so strong emotionally touched by this event that he had three failed attempts in the Press.

Serge Reding was with a young Polish woman who he had met in a pub in Warsaw, first marriage. At the World Championship 1975 in Manila, he met a Filipino waitress with whom he fell in love - his first marriage had since failed. He held, therefore longer time in Manila, and committed suicide there on 18 June 1975 in a hotel suicide.

Serge Reding weighed in at a size of 172 cm at his best 140-145 kg.
