Sergey Chaplygin

Sergei Alekseevich Chaplygin (Russian: Сергей Алексеевич Чаплыгин, scientific transliteration Sergei Alekseevic Čaplygin; born 24 Märzjul / 5 April 1869greg in Ranenburg, .. † October 8, 1942 in Novosibirsk ) was a Soviet aerodynamics.

Chaplygin was a student of Nikolai Zhukovsky Jegorowitsch and eventually became co-founder of the Central Aero Hydrodynamic Institute ( TsAGI ). Chaplygin where he led a chair and after the death Zhukovsky scientific director of TsAGI.

Tschaplygins work of 1902 over gas flows was one of the essential foundations for the study of gas dynamics. His experiments in flows in the high subsonic range were confirmed in the 1930s by the emerging fast aircraft.

Since 1929 Chaplygin was a member of the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Shortly before his death in 1941, he was honored with the Order of Hero of Socialist Labor.
