Sergey Karpov

Sergei Pavlovich Karpov (Russian: Сергей Павлович Карпов; * January 1, 1948 in Stavropol ) is a Russian historian specializing in medieval studies and Byzantine Studies.

Biography

Karpov studied in Moscow, where he earned his degree in 1971 at the Moscow State University ( MGU ) in history. In 1974 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on the Empire of Trebizond. 1977-78 he pursued his studies using a research fellowship at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice.

In addition, he has worked since 1974, first as an assistant and later as a lecturer at the Moscow State University; He is since 1989 where he worked as a professor of Byzantine history, since 1995 Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and built which is under his leadership Centre for Black Sea research on.
