Sergio Sánchez (athlete)

Sergio Sánchez ( born October 1, 1982 in La Pola de Gordón ) is a Spanish long-distance runner.

In 2008 he was Spanish indoor champion in the 3,000 -meter run and qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Valencia. There, he finished eighth. At the European Indoor Championships 2009 in Turin, he was over the same distance in fourth. In the same year he competed in the World Championships in Berlin in 5000 -meter run, however, different in the run- off. In the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin, he was fourth and won with the Spanish team gold.

The final international breakthrough came in 2010. On February 13, he presented over 3000 meters with a time of 7:32,41 min hall a European record and undercutting his former Freiluftbestleistung by over 13 seconds. A month later he won the silver medal behind the Americans Bernard Lagat at the World Indoor Championships in Doha.
