Seroma

A seroma is the accumulation of exudate in non- preformed tissue cavities ( pseudocyst ). It may form after surgery in the area occluded superficial wounds. It can also occur after injuries and shock.

A seroma contains lymph or blood serum. It therefore differs from a bruise ( hematoma) that contains red blood cells, and comprises of an abscess, the pus. A seroma does not hurt at the top pressures, in contrast to the hematoma.

Treatment

The liquid can be sucked sterile ( " tapped in ") and the site may be protected with a pressure bandage. It may come several days to weeks to renewed liquid form, which resolves itself or is repeatedly tapped in. Do not listen to the liquid form, the skin is cut and sewn or newly laid drainage.
