Server Side Scripting

Server side scripting is a technology for web servers are met when the user requests by a script (or binary program ) is executed on the server to create a dynamic website. Unlike Client Side Scripting the program runs independently of the client on the server. The server returns the result of the script as HTTP or FTP response to the user.

History and Development

In the early days of the web server side scripting has been widely implemented through the Common Gateway Interface using a combination of Perl scripts, shell scripts and binary programs, which were often written in C. These scripts and programs were carried out by the operating system and delivered only their output back to the web server. Today the scripting languages can often using additional modules, such as mod php or perl mod be performed directly on the Web server. There are Web servers, such as Apache Tomcat, which are specialized in the execution of server-side programs and have even been specially developed for this purpose.
