Sestri Levante

Sestri Levante ( Liguria Sestri ) is a municipality with 18,543 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Italian region Liguria, Genoa Province (GE).

Geography

Between Chiavari and Lavagna in the north and in the south Levanto Sestri Levante is located on the coast of the Gulf of Tigullio (Riviera di Levante ) at two bays; its old town occupies the small offshore upstanding peninsula Portobello. Sestri Levante includes suburbs with an area of 33.33 km ². Direct train connections are heading north to Genoa and south to La Spezia. The Monte Castello on a city area south upstream green peninsula extends 285 m up high.

In Sestri Levante one named after Hans Christian Andersen children's literature award, the Premio Andersen is awarded annually. Andersen stayed several times on here.

Traffic

Sestri Levante has a station on the railway Pisa - Genova. Since the railway line was laid with the two-pronged expansion in the area of Sestri Levante, in 1926 a new station was opened, replacing the previous and still exists today. It is served by intercity trains (IC) and Regional trains (R). The Intercity line Milano Centrale - Piazza Principe - Sestri Levante - La Spezia Centrale ( - Pisa Centrale - Livorno Centrale ( - Grosseto) ) holds every two hours with a single clock gaps. In addition, two pairs of trains operate the intercity line Torino Porta Nuova - Genova Piazza Principe - Sestri Levante - La Spezia Centrale - Pisa Centrale - Livorno Centrale ( - Grosseto - Roma Termini - Napoli Centrale - Salerno).
