Seven Oaks Dam

Seven Oaks is a dam on the Santa Ana River in San Bernardino County of the U.S. state of California. The dam is 13 km north-east of Redlands in Santa Ana Canyon in the San Bernardino Mountains. It was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers for flood protection and cost 250 million dollars. When completed in November 1999, he was the tenth- highest dam of earth and rockfill material in the United States.

Construction began in August 1994. The dam is 168 meters high above the river bed, 198 feet above its foundation, and at its base, 670 meters wide. He has a building volume of 33 million cubic meters, although another source indicates 28.77 million cubic meters. The dam is on the San Andreas Fault and is so constructed that it can withstand an earthquake measuring eight ( on the Richter scale ).

The reservoir has a capacity of 179.6 million cubic meters. It is intended to protect the eastern part of the area around Los Angeles against flooding. The storage space is unusually large for a basin that serves the flood protection alone. After a flood, the water is gradually released, but so slowly that can seep part and recharging the groundwater. In the dry season the pool is temporarily empty. 64 km below, there is another dam, the Prado Dam.
