Seymchan (meteorite)

From meteorites Seymchan (Russian Сеймчан; German transcription Seimtschan; scientific transliteration Sejmčan ) was found in June 1967 a piece of 272.3 kg at Seimtschan in the Magadan Oblast in eastern Russia. It was in the river bed of the opening into the Jassatschnaja Chekandue. In October of the same year they found another piece of 51 kg. These pieces were classified as Oktaedrite the group II.

In a later expedition in 2004 more parts were with a total mass of about 50 kg found in its investigation it was found that there was Olivineinschlüsse, similar to the Glorieta Mountain pallasite. Further investigations have revealed that there are two types of finds. The Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry to clarify whether it is possible to be a meteorite at the other pieces later found.
