Seynod

Seynod is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region. It is the capital of the canton in the Arrondissement Annecy Seynod.

Geography

Seynod is located on 532 m above sea level. Level, about 3.5 km southwest of the town of Annecy (air line). The municipality extends on the southwestern edge of the basin from Annecy in the foothills of the Alps at the foot of Semnoz (1699 m above sea level ), to a left side of the creek Thiou ( outflow of Lac d' Annecy ), in Genevois.

The area of ​​19.17 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the basin of Annecy. The main settlement area is located in a gently undulating landscape that is drained by two streams northeast to Thiou. To the south, the municipality's area extends on the plateau at the western foot of the Semnoz and into the catchment area of ​​the Chéran in Albanais. A narrow tail extends over the steep slope on the broad, thickly forested ridge of Semnoz that belongs to the massif of the Wallows. Here is 1024 m above sea level. Neighboring communities of Seynod are Cran- Gevrier in the north, Annecy and Sévrier in the east, Quintal, Viuz la Chiésaz and Chapeiry in the south and Montagny- les- Lanches and Chavanod in the West.

History

The municipal area of Seynod was already a settlement under the name Saginatum during the Roman period. For the first time in the records of the place in 867 under the name Sagenadum and Sagenodum when King Lothar of Lorraine gave the territory to his wife Theutberga appears. From the 14th to the 16th centuries formed Seynod own little rule under the family Pelard. To territorial changes occurred in the second half of the 20th century: 1965 Vieugy was incorporated into Seynod, 1973 Balmont was a fusion with composite Seynod one that resulted in the definitive merger respectively incorporation to Seynod 1997.

Attractions

The Church of Seynod was built in the 19th century with the inclusion of the choir ( 17th century ) of the previous building. The Rectory dates from the 16th century. Population

With 18,646 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Seynod is one of the largest municipalities of the department of Haute- Savoie. Economy and infrastructure

Seynod was until well into the 20th century a dominantly agricultural village. The nearest links to the A41 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about 4 km. By several bus lines Seynod is connected to Annecy. Thus, the main railway station Annecy on the railway line from Chambery to Annemasse is easily accessible.
