Seyssel AOC

Seyssel is an AOC - growing region, which is 5% share of the wine region Savoie. The name derives from the twin city Seyssel (Ain) and Seyssel (Haute -Savoie ), which lies on both sides of the river. In the west, so in the department of Ain ​​include the communities Orbognoux, Puthier, Siland, Drongines, Eillaux, Corbonod, Giniez, Fontaine, Seissel and Charbonnière to the wine region, in the east there are the communities Cologny, Chavagny, Vallod, Méral, Pologny, Seyssel, Les Cotes, Charagny, Prairod and Vens in the Haute- Savoie (each from north to south). The status as a AOC area Seyssel received on 11 February 1942. Annual production is approximately 2500 hl.

History

Documents from the early 19th century show that then sparkling wines have been produced already. 1927 are the manufacturer of Seyssel and Corbonod an association for the delimitation of their vineyards in order to protect themselves legally and judicially better together can. Since 24 September 2011, the variety Molette was officially recognized by the Council of the INAO as a dry white wine by decree.

Cultivation

The wines of the AOC Seyssel grow at a height from 250 to 550 m altitude. The substrate consists mainly of Erosionsmelasse who have the Alpine valleys filled in the Tertiary. These are mainly sandstone and limestone marl and clay - limestone mixture. The individual vineyards are therefore quite differentiated.

The juicing the berries is carried out gently without much pressure. The fermentation takes place without harsh ingredients such as bowls and stems only on the yeast within eight to 30 days at a controlled temperature of 18 ° -20 ° C. The sparkling wines in Seyssel the " traditional method ", ie, with exclusive use of own carbonic acid are produced since 1901.

In cultivation roussette grapes, which are called here Altesse and from which white still and sparkling wines are ( in the ratio 1: 1.6: p 188 ) are obtained. The strict quantity limits of 32 hl / ha - for Cru wines even 30 hl / ha: p 191 - were lifted after 1959 at 53 hl / ha, since the desired quality improvement thereby could not be reached.

While for still wines exclusively reserved for the Altesse grape, Chasselas and also serrated roller is additionally allowed for sparkling wines.
