SF Line

SF Line was the name of the Finnish shipping company, which is known as Viking Line today. The company, which was originally called Rederi Ab Ålandsfärjan, was next to Rederi Ab Vikinglinjen and Rederi Ab Slite one of the three lines, formed in 1966, the ship trading company Viking Line. After the other companies had to leave in 1988 and 1993 respectively, Viking Line, SF Line stood as the sole owners of the Viking Line. Following this, SF Line changed the name of their 1995 Viking Line.

History

Rederi Ab Vikinglinjen (later Rederi Ab Solstad and 1970 combined to Rederi Ab Sally ) was founded in 1959 and started the ferry operating between Sweden and Gräddö Korpo in Finland. After a disagreement between the founders, led by Gunnar Eklund, a group left the shipping company and founded a new company, the Rederi Ab Ålandsfärjan. The new company bought the steamer Brittany, baptized him into Ålandsfärjan and started the operation between Kapellskar and Mariehamn ( Åland ) in direct competition with Rederi Ab Vikinglinjen.

1966 united Rederi Ab Ålandsfärjan, Rederi Ab Vikinglinjen and Rederi AB Slite and founded the trading company Viking Line to compete with Silja Line. During the following years the three companies ordered many new buildings, and Viking Line has become a leading shipping company in the Baltic ferry traffic.

1970 changed the Rederi Ab Ålandsfärjan its name to SF Line, where " S" for "Sweden" (Swedish Sverige) and "F" for " Finland " (Swedish Finland) were. Your first new acquisition in 1967 was delivered Capella. As a tribute to Gunnar Eklund's wife Ellen completed the following names of all ships on - ella.

When the Rederi Ab Sally was acquired in 1987 by the company EffJohn, who also belonged to Silja Line, Sally had to rely on pressure of SF Line and Rederi Ab Slite Viking Line. After the bankruptcy of Rederi Ab Slite 1993 SF Line was the only other company Viking Line. The SF Line changed its name then in Viking Line.
