The Saxon sports club Altenberg eV is a sports club from the town of Altenberg in the Erzgebirge. It is divided into 16 departments. The SSV Altenberg is one of the most successful winter sports clubs in Germany, which is particularly active in the promotion of young talent.

History

The SSV Altenberg eV had been founded on 3 October 1992, the merger of two clubs. These were the ESR steel Altenberg (later Sports Club eV tin ore ), represented the popular sports of mainly, and the SG Dynamo Cínovec (later Saxon Wintersportverein Altenberg eV ), which was primarily responsible for the top-level sport. The SSV had about 500 members, which makes it one of the biggest sports clubs in Saxony since its inception.

Famous athletes

For the SSV Altenberg launched several members of the National Biathlon squad, including Anne and Preussler, Katja Beer, Peggy Wagenführ, Michael Roesch, Carsten Pump and Ute Niziak for the SSV. Currently there are mainly Susann King and Tina Bachmann successful.

In the mountain bike Matthias Mende was, who was a professional driver to 2003, the only internationally successful athletes. René Birkenfeld, who started his career in the Mountain Division of the SSV Altenberg, 2007 was German champion in cyclo-cross. Also the area Bob is currently no well-known representation since many Altenberg pilots are at home in SC Oberbärenburg.
