SG SS Straßburg

Foundation

With the beginning of World War II football teams of the Armed Forces and other armed formations were established throughout the German Reich, including the SS in Alsace, which was connected to the Reich after the invasion of France by the summer of 1940, again, the previous football clubs had to give German names. These included the Red Star Strasbourg, who took its old name FC Franconia from the period before 1918, when Strasbourg was German again. At the SG several former professional players of the previous top clubs Racing Strasbourg seconded, the now called turf sports club Strasbourg, including the goalkeeper Charles Hoffmann (Karl Hoffmann), the eight-time French international Frederic Keller ( Fritz Keller ) and the brothers Emile and Pierre Waechter None of the better known players belonged to the SS, most of them were Alsatians. Seasons 1940-1944

Basketball as a figurehead
