Association

The SG Wallau emerged from the SG Wallau mass home. This was founded in 1975 by the merger of Handball departments of the TV Wallau and TuS mass home. After the withdrawal of the TuS mass home from the gaming community in 2008, the SG Wallau continues the game mode.

The SG currently has about 800 members, which in three men's teams (3rd League East, Bezirksoberliga, District League C ), or are active in the youth teams. The club plays its home games out in the 800 -seat " Ländcheshalle " in Hofheim- Wallau.

History

From the Beginning

The SG Wallau mass home was at the beginning of the 90s with several national and international titles by far the most successful German handball club. From the club had - in the first season after the founding - 1975/1976 in the Main-Taunus district league. At that time, lost the newly formed team "from the Ländche " on 21 February 1976, the crucial home game and thus missing out on promotion in the district league. In the following seasons, however, the team coached by Norbert Anthes launched an unexpected walkover. 1981 handed because of a new classification already in fourth place in the league for collection in the Regionalliga. Through selective reinforcements, inter alia, with the backcourt director Željko Zovko (28 -fold Yugoslav national team and later more player-manager ), succeeded in the season 1982/1983 the rise in the second league.

National league

For the adventure 2nd Bundesliga hired Horst Spengler - one of the world champions of 1978 - in Wallau as coach. Despite some injury concerns, the SG had on the final day still a theoretical chance to create at least in the first second-division season the direct ascent. Through a 13:20 defeat of league leaders Griesheim against Schutter forest and its own 35:11 win against relegated hatred hole slammed the evening of 5 May 1984, the champagne corks in the more than 1,500 spectators overcrowded Ländcheshalle. The SG Wallau mass home had reached the highest German league only nine years after its founding.

This was followed a year later, however, the direct descent. In the subsequent second-division season, the SG could not play for the climb. In the Walter Köbel Hall in Rüsselsheim - in the SG since 1984 fought out their Bundesliga games - remained the team without point loss, but this was not enough ultimately to participate in the relegation round. Only in 1987 succeeded the gaming community, the renewed rise in the handball House of Lords.

In order to keep this time the class was, inter alia, National player Stephan Schoene ( TuRu Dusseldorf ) and the Finn Mikael Källman (BK 46 Karis / FIN) committed. Despite poor away record the final score was just to stay in the 1st Division. For the season 1988/1989 the Croatian success coach Velimir Kljaić took office in Wallau and immediately achieved with the " Ländches troupe " 5th place in the Bundesliga. The following season ended the SG on rank 3 and failed in the first discharged the play-off round at the grand old man of Milbertshofen.

Master years

One year after the fall of the wall required the SG for the season 1990/1991 the former GDR selection player Peter Hofmann and Mike Fuhrig (both before SC Leipzig) and intensified beyond that, inter alia, with National Player Martin Schwalb ( TUSEM food). In addition, the team of coach Velimir Kljaić from 1990 first played regularly in the built by the city of Frankfurt for 40 million Mark Ball sports hall (about 5,000 spectators ).

The investment should pay off one year later. 1992 was the most successful year in the Wall Auer club's history. In a spectacular play-off final, the SG Wallau / Massenheim defeated the giants SG Leutershausen with 24:17 and thus secured for the first time the German Handball Championship. In the final of the IHF Cup, the game community prevailed against the Belarusian team SKA Minsk and came thus to international honors. That team captain Mikael Källman was elected as the first foreigner to handball player of the year, capped an incredible season.

For Velimir Kljaić 1992, who later became national coach and world champion coach Heiner Brand place on the bench of the SG. The second German league title was sovereign retracted at the end of the season 1992/1993 with seven points clear of second-placed TV Niederwürzbach. Through a 24:21 victory against Bayer Dormagen in the final match of the final round of the DHB Cup, the " Ländchestruppe " also secured the Double. But the real highlight of the season was definitely the in the Frankfurt Festhalle in front of 10,000 handball fans discharged final second leg at the European Cup of Champions. The 22:18 win in front of a home crowd was not enough due to the away defeat in the Zagreb ice rink but for the big triumph.

In the Bundesliga champions and Cup winners disappointed a year later: there were 1993/1994 "only" number five and eleven distinct points behind the new German champions THW Kiel. Heiner Brand threw at halftime of the season in the towel. Burkhard Keller trained Wallau until the end of the season as interim coach. For highlights of the team made only in the DHB Cup. In the 1994 inaugural " Final Four " in the Sporthalle Hamburg hit the SG in the final on SG Flensburg- Handewitt and was able to repeat last year's victory by 17:14. In the game for the Super Cup between league and cup, the team was also able to compete with the newly minted champions from THW Kiel.

SG W / M Frankfurt

In the following seasons, sporting success was hardly any. Coach Björn Jilsen to second division times scorer in the service of the SG, had indeed play offensive pace handball, but could not decisively intervene in the battle for the German championship with it.

The professional handball was spun off in 1996 in the SG Wallau / Mass Home operating and marketing GmbH. The new company was responsible for the commercial management of the licensing area.

At the beginning of the 1996/1997 season was invested heavily in the team. After the departure of Mikael Källman reinforced among others the two French world champion Frédéric Full and Mark Wiltberger and the Russian world class runners circle Dmitri Torgowanow the team. In addition, during the season returned Meistermacher Velimir Kljaić back to the dugout. At the end of the season it was enough anyway to fourth place in the Bundesliga, and back player Martin Schwalb was being celebrated as a scorer and handball player of the year.

After a dream start to the season 1997/1998 it hails middle of the season several defeats, followed by Velimir Kljaić tearfully announced his retirement. Martin Schwalb, who ended his playing career after the third place at the European Championship in 1998, took over as player-coach at first together with Armin Emrich as coach. With a sixth in the table and the semi-finals in Euro -City Cup turbulent season took a conciliatory statements.

In 1998 it was renamed the " SG W / M Frankfurt - The Panther". Turning to Main metropolis had marketing technical reasons and should be particularly interested in new sponsors for the club in order to economically exist in the long run in the " strongest league in the world " can. However, this move proved to be a flop. As of 2000 the club therefore again stood as SG Wallau / mass home.

The Wild Ones

Sporty sank the club in mediocrity. A sixth place in the final table of 1999, hope, and in 2000 made a very young and inexperienced team with respect successes attention. Due to ongoing financial difficulties, the club at the beginning of the new millennium had to rely on their own youth and the evaluation of young players with prospects enhanced. Coach Martin Schwalb led, inter alia, Players like Steffen Weber, Christian Rose, Gregory Werum, Jan- Olaf Immel, Pascal Hens and Dominik Klein in national and international arena.

After the surprising collection in 2000 in the Final Four to the DHB Cup in Hamburg was fast from the " Junge Wilde " is mentioned in the media. A year later, launched by the team in the Bundesliga and secured in the 2000/2001 season before the league and cup THW Kiel fourth place. The following season, the " Ländchestruppe " moved beyond the semi-finals at the EHF Cup one.

However, the euphoria did not let also be translated into long -term success. The young team could not meet in the seasons 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 the high expectations and established himself in ninth place in the Bundesliga.

Bankruptcy and relegation

2005 was the darkest year in the now 30 - year history. After the fall of 2004 were unexpectedly sponsorship failed to materialize, the already financially troubled club was faced with the inability to pay. Although the management of SG since January 2005 could not pay more players' salaries, the team stepped up to the end of the season to courageous and secured with tenth place at least the athletic league.

The game operation and marketing company expressed, however, now a debt from an estimated 1.27 million euros. For weeks, the club tried to find new investors to avoid insolvency. The sale of the "Licensor" T-shirts as well as a charity match before 2,500 spectators at the Frankfurt Ballsporthalle against longtime rival THW Kiel at the end but not enough to rescue. The Wall Auer received a new license for the Handball - Bundesliga, the economic support company had to file for bankruptcy. The SG Wallau / Massenheim had to withdraw from the Bundesliga game mode and try a fresh start with the II team in the Regionalliga West end of the season.

Regional

The group of players to the club could put on his new beginning in the third highest handball league, was composed of experienced Regional players of the SG " regional teams " and some young talent in the A- youth, who had previously won the German youth championship in. Only Sebastian Linder, Captain Mathias Beer, Markus Meier Ross and Fabian Bohnert were able to demonstrate experience in the 1st or 2nd Division. The goal for the 2005/2006 season: the direct re- ascent.

At first, everything went according to plan. Blessed with great self- confidence, SG Wallau / Massenheim their role was fair as a seasonal favorite and remained until 15 Matchday without loss of points. In the Parzival sports hall, the " Hell South ", the team coached by Jörg Schulze, however the ascent competitors TV Kirchzell subject. The decision to move up should fall only in the big season finale on May 20, 2006. The Wall Auer Ländcheshalle bursting with over 1,000 spectators at the seams, but the many SG fans could not prevent a re - clear 30:40 defeat against the Lower Franconia from Kirchzell. As table runner the team initially remained in the Regionalliga West.

Under the new SG coach Carsten Bengs caught the " Ländches Troupe " in the following season 2006/2007, the worst possible start to the season. After two opening defeats, the team quickly found only in a persecutor role again. But the young team did not give up and launched a furious comeback with 24 wins in a row. Three games left took over the SG by a clear 30:22 victory against the TSG wholesale Bieberau first time the standings in the Regionalliga West. A week later, the " regional team " away at TSG hatred hole was able to secure the West German Championship and thus celebrate the return to the Bundesliga Handball.

Second Bundesliga

The start of the Second Bundesliga was a rollercoaster of emotions for the young team. At the start of the season only amplified by goalscorer Wilm Hetkamp relegated from the TV Kirchzell and youth international Steffen Faeth, the SG got off to a cold start and went five defeats in a row with 00:10 points in the first round. After a " golden October ", the team first appeared acclimatized and able to shine above all with victories in Eisenach and against TSG Friesenheim.

However, again, variable power and a new series of defeats forced the leaders to take action. In November 2007, dismissed Wallau Coach Carsten Bengs and brought the former player Mike Fuhrig, which to date the A- supervised youth, to the dugout. At his side presented the club's management led by managing director Hans -Dieter Großkurth Bengs ' predecessor Jörg Schulze as athletic director.

The new coaching team was able to establish definitively the team in the 2nd Bundesliga, the team was particularly with success against third-placed from Willstaett and the ambitious HSC Coburg attention. In the final table, the climber was able to establish on an unchallenged 8th Place.
