Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (song)

June 1, 1967

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is a song by The Beatles, released on 1 June 1967, the eponymous album. The song was written by Paul McCartney. As copyright holder, however, Lennon / McCartney are given.

The piece faked the beginning of a concert. The group presents itself with this song to the audience and invites it to enjoy the show. To reinforce the impression of a live recording, crowd noise and applause were displayed. The piece opens finally without interruption in the second title of the album With a Little Help from My Friends. McCartney announces at this point with vigorous applause the fictitious " one and only Billy Shears" to.

Recordings

The recordings of the piece took place at Abbey Road Studios on February 1 and 2 and on 3 and 6 March 1967. The most striking musical features a heavily distorted electric guitar and the use of buglers. During the chorus was sung in three parts, Paul McCartney took over the lead vocals. George Harrison had played in a seven-hour session, a guitar solo, but McCartney insisted on playing the solos themselves.

Others

Jimi Hendrix opened a few days after the album release a concert in London with this song. The Beatles were also in the audience and were delighted with this greeting. They were amazed because he had had little time to learn the song.

On July 2, 2005 Paul McCartney along with the Irish rock group U2 opened the Live 8 concert in London with the song.
