SH3 domain

An SH3 domain is a protein domain that mediates specific protein interactions. The abbreviation stands for SH3 Src homology 3 (derived from the protein kinase c- Src, in which the domain was described for the first time; see SH2 domain ). The region is about 60 amino acids long and recognizes in particular proline-rich amino acid motifs ( PXXP ).

SH3 domains are involved in many protein complexes, in particular for scaffolding proteins and kinases in signal transduction.
