Shabbethai Horowitz

Shabtai Horowitz (* 1590 probably in Ostroh, Volhynia, † April 12, 1660 ) was a rabbi and Talmudic scholar.

He was the son of the kabbalist Isaiah Horovitz. At a young age he married the daughter of the rich and the learned Moses Charif from Lublin. Together with his father he apparently traveled to Prague, where he held the position of a preacher. From Prague he went as rabbi to Fürth, from where he was eventually appointed to in 1632 to Frankfurt am Main. 1650 was a call to Vienna, where he died on 12 April 1660.
