About his early life is as good as nothing is known. Shahin but served the Persian king Chosroes II in which 603 commenced against Ostrom war, where he first successfully operated. 608 or 609, he managed to break through on the Armenian front, where he occupied Theodosiopolis. 611 penetrated his troops to Asia Minor, Caesarea in Cappadocia was occupied and Persian troops passed through the land. However, their control of Asia Minor was rather superficial, though the appearance of Persian troops at Chalcedon (614 and 615 ), and the capital Constantinople Opel, unrest caused by the Romans. Already 613 he had his forces with those of General Shahrbaraz, who was a rival Schahins can unite before the Roman counter-offensive in Armenia 614 forced under the General Philippikos Shahin on a strategic retreat.

615 he had with Emperor Heraclius peace talks, but without result went. When Heraclius 622 went on the offensive against the Persians, Shahin tried in vain to destroy the troops: he was defeated along with other Persian generals Heraclius in 625, after the emperor act with skill and the Persian troops had repeatedly misled.

In the year 626 it came to the siege of Constantinople Opel. Schahins task was to bind the troops of Heraclius, and if possible to destroy, while Shahrbaraz with the help of the allied Avars ( and their Slavic subjects ) should conquer the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire. The Roman fleet, prevented, however, that the Persians were able to translate on the European shore, the Avars, in turn, could not overcome the strong fortifications of Constantinople and finally withdrew. Shahin and his army (which may have been up to 50,000 men strong ) documents well in July 626 (probably near Satala ) a run of Heraclius ' brother Theodore Roman army. Shortly thereafter, he died. Chosroes, the increasingly distrusted his generals (and this certainly is not wrongly) to be such was furious that he did prepare the corpse of General in the cruelest way.
