The Dhaka airport (English Shahjalal International Airport, IATA code DAC, ICAO code VGHS ) is an international airport in Bangladesh and the largest in the country. It is located in Uttara, 20 km north of the capital Dhaka.

The commercial airport opened in 1981 and was named after the former president Ziaur Rahman. In 2010 it was renamed the Shahjalal International Airport ( after Hazrat Shah Jalal Islamic holy al-Din al - Mujarrad ). Shahjalal International is the aviation hub of the companies Biman Bangladesh Airlines and GMG Airlines.

Approximately 52% of all flights in the country are held here. Last 3.8 million passengers of international flights were handled ( 0.8 million at domestic flights ). Cargo handling was 105,000 tons last.

Incidents

  • On August 4, 1984, a Fokker F -27 Biman from Chittagong Coming crashed in a swamp near the airport Dhaka. All 45 passengers and four crew members died. Pilot was Kaniz Fatema Roksana, the first woman pilot of the country in civil aviation.
